The onboarding of Research Products into the EOSC Resource Catalogue requires EOSC Data Sources to expose metadata records describing research products via any metadata formats specified in the EOSC Research Product Profiles. EOSC Data Sources must expose the records via harvesting APIs listed on the table below. According to the System of Systems approach, the list can be further extended by the EOSC IF governance.

ProtocolDescriptionReference
OAI-PMH

The Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) is a low-barrier mechanism for repository interoperability. Data Providers are repositories that expose structured metadata via OAI-PMH. Service Providers then make OAI-PMH service requests to harvest that metadata. OAI-PMH is a set of six verbs or services that can be invoked within HTTP.

FTP

The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard communication protocol used to transfer computer files from a server to a client on a computer network. FTP is built on a client–server model architecture using separate control and data connections between the client and the server.
